Seaside Sparrow
Ammodramus maritimus
As the name implies, the Seaside Sparrow (Ammodramus maritimus) is a bird of coastal marshland from New England south to Florida and west to south Texas.

Seaside Sparrows appear to be residents in the south, while northern breeders leave their wintering grounds as early as mid-April.

A fairly common permanent resident of the spartina grass marshes of the UTC. Seaside Sparrow should be found oddly enough right on the seaside. In April and May the males will be singing and easy to locate.

Cape Sable seaside sparrows are dietary generalists, taking advantage of any food available as they forage low in the grass and on the ground. They feed on grasshoppers, caterpillars, beetles, spiders, and grass and sedge seeds.

A subspecies of the Jamaican Oriole, last reliably recorded in 1938.

Scott's Seaside Sparrow and Wakulla Seaside Sparrow, which inhabit Gulf coastal marshes, are species of special concern. When mangroves overrun the grassy vegetation in these areas, the sparrows move on.
