Spinner dolphins have been known to associate with spotted dolphins, yellowfin, and skipjack tuna (Klinowska, 1991). Spinner dolphins rest in shallow waters, usually inlets. They tend to go back to the same area each day.

BEHAVIOR: Groups range from a few to a few thousand animals. Spinners often mix with pilot whales, spotted dolphins, yellowfin, and skipjack tuna. They rest in shallow waters and inlets, usually feeding after resting.
The adults spend the non-breeding season out at sea, feeding during the day on squid, fish and crustacea driven to the surface by tuna and porpoises. They prey mainly on squirrel fish, flying fish, skipjack tuna and goatfish (6).
Other populations seem to support fairly healthy fisheries (for example, the central and western Pacific skipjack tuna), but there is mounting evidence that overcapitalization threatens tuna fisheries world-wide.
