Sloth bears are governed by the SSP (Species Survival Plan) program, which manages breeding in order to maintain a genetically diverse zoo population.
Sloth bear adults can weigh anywhere from 120-310 pounds and measure anywhere from 60-75 inches in length. The males are larger than the females.
The Sloth bear (Melursus ursinus) is a nocturnal bear with shaggy fur. It inhabits the lowland forests of India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

These shaggy-haired bears were originally classed as sloths. When feeding, they can be heard sucking up termites from many miles away.
Subspecies
Two subspecies.
DIET Sloth bears feed extensively on termites and have special adaptations for doing this: The naked lips are capable of protruding, and the inner pair of upper incisors are missing, which forms a gap through which termites can be sucked.
