The Snow Goose has two color phases. The white or "snow" phase is white with black wing tips, red legs and feet, pink bill, and black patch around the base of the bill like a smile.

The Snow goose is the noisiest of all geese; it has a shrill honk that can be heard long before it flies into view. Families of Snow geese stick together through the first winter of the year after the young are born.
Lesser Snow Goose’s size: Length, approximately two and a half feet; wingspan, roughly three feet; weight, five to six pounds; male, slightly larger than the female.

The species most similar to the Canada Goose are the Brant and the Snow Goose. In the Southeast, the Brant is found in coastal areas. It is a small goose that lacks the white chin strap and has a lot of white around its tail.
Towering above the pink-feet visiting north-west Norfolk last winter was a white, or snow phase, greater snow goose. No doubt this was the example which appeared in Lancashire, again with pink-feet, earlier that winter.
