Southern Cricket Frog (Acris gryllus)
Southern Cricket Frogs are very common tiny frogs of shallow water (puddles, ditches, pond margins).

A pretty little frog, found near a fish pond. Cricket frogs are usually easy to identify by the inverted triangle of darker pigment between the eyes, which is easy to see on this one.

It's difficult to tell Southern Cricket Frogs apart from their Northern cousins, and both species live in this area. I think this little tyke is A. gryllus based on the small amount of webbing visible on its hind feet, and its relatively pointy snout.

Description: Cricket frogs are small frogs with very long legs, pointed snouts and rough, warty skin. They vary in color, ranging from greenish brown to red.

The Southern Cricket Frog, Acris gryllus gryllus, is found in wetlands in the western panhandle. It is similar to the Florida Cricket Frog.
