Squawfish

Animals Squat lobsterSquid

Fishes often eaten by northern river otters include suckers (Catostomus spp.), redhorses (Moxostoma spp.), carp (Cyprinus spp.), chubs (Semotilus spp.), daces (Phinichthys spp.), shiners (Notropis spp.), squawfish (Ptychocheilus spp.), ...

The carp is generally considered the largest of the minnow family, although the squawfishes of the Columbia and Colorado rivers average 30 lb (13.5 kg) and the mahseer, a game fish of India, is also large. However, most minnows are small.

According to the USGS, the Colorado River drainage system is home to numerous species, including, for instance, various chubs, the Colorado Squawfish, the Razorback Sucker and the Bonytail.
