Echinoderm: starfish
Echinoderms differ from chordates' other relatives in three conspicuous ways: instead of having bilateral symmetry they have radial symmetry, meaning their body pattern is shaped like a wheel; ...

A Star Is Born Starfish aren't fish. They are invertebrates. They have no bones. There are 1,800 species of starfish and they live in all of the world's oceans. Starfish usually have five arms.

Represented by starfish, sea urchins, and their relatives, phylum Echinodermata ("spiny-skinned") exclusively inhabits marine environments and consists of about 6,500 species.

Sea stars are also known as starfish, but they are not fish at all.
A sea star can regrow arms that are lost, and if cut in half, some sea stars can grow into two separate creatures.

Sea otters eat clams, crabs, snails, starfish, abalone, and approximately 40 other marine animals. Sea otters dive up to 37 m to find food. Their average dive lasts about a minute; the longest dive recorded, however, lasted 4 minutes.

The hooded seal diet consists of mussels, starfish, squid, shrimp, herring and cod. Aside from humans, who hunt them for their skin, their principal predator appears to be the killer whale.

A classic example of pentamerous symmetry is the starfish. All echinoderms have an internal skeleton made of calcareous ossicles. In sea urchins, the ossicles are fused together into a structure called a test, or shell (Barnes, 1980).

Echinoderms (meaning "spiny skin") are a phylum of salt-water animals whose living members have five arms or rays (or multiples of five). They are mostly bottom-dwellers. These invertebrates include: starfish, sea urchins, sand dollars, crinoids, ...
