Sun bears are omnivorous, meaning they eat both plants and animals. They consume fruit, when it’s available, and will also hunt rodents, birds and lizards. The biggest portion of their diet is bees, termites and earthworms.
DIET Sun bears are omnivores, feeding primarily on termites, ants, beetle larvae, bee larvae and honey, and a large variety of fruit species, especially figs (Ficus spp.), when available.
The Malayan Sun Bear has got a short black fur. Some species have yellowish spot on their chest. From the anatomical point of view, it is the smallest bear in the world measuring only about 4-5 feet in length while females are even smaller.
Sun bears are the smallest bears in the family Ursidae. They stand 70 cm at the shoulder and are 1.2 to 1.5 m from head to tail. The tail itself is 3 to 7 cm. Males are larger than the females but only by 10 to 20%.
