A Terrestrial Garter Snake was spotted in the pool at the bottom of the waterfall in the reeds where it likely was looking for adult Central Pacific Chorus Frogs to feed upon.

The Western terrestrial garter snake (Thamnophis elegans) occurs in a wide variety of habitats and, despite its name, it spends a lot of time in water.

The western terrestrial garter snake (Thamnophis elegans) has six recognized sub-species. In Canada, only one is present: the wandering garter snake (Thamnophis elegans vagrans).

Other potential predators captured near breeding ponds were western terrestrial garter snakes (T. elgans) and shrews (Sorex spp.).
