Apache (the black one) and one female Cheyenne.
Often called the timber wolf, the gray wolf is native to Minnesota and is the state's most controversial animal. That's because it sometimes kills livestock and pets, often eats deer, and is valued by many people as a symbol of wilderness.
Today the eastern timber wolf survives in only three percent of its original home range in the U.S. The largest population exists in northern Minnesota. There are smaller populations in Michigan and Wisconsin. In the northeast U.S.
