The Masked Tityra (Tityra semifasciata) occurs in Mexico within 250 miles of Brownsville, Texas. The bird in the top 4 shots at right was found by birders on 17 February 1990 in Bentsen Rio Grande State Park, Hidalgo Co., Texas.

Black-tailed Tityra (Tityra cayana)
The Black-tailed Tityra is distributed through the Orinoco and Amazon Basins and into eastern and central Brazil and Paraguay. It is found in the canopy and borders of humid forest and secondary woodland.

The becards and tityras were formerly considered to be cotingas, but are now usually included in the Tyrannidae. They are also sometimes given their own family, the Tityridae.
