Toucans vary in size from the jay-sized toucanets to the 24-in. (62-cm) tocos of the Amazon basin.

Body length: largest—toco toucan Ramphastos toco, up to 24 inches (61 centimeters); smallest—tawny-tufted toucanet Selenidera nattereri, 12.5 inches (32 centimeters)
Weight: heaviest—toco toucan, up to 1.

The feathers of the small toucanets do not begin to expand until they are nearly four weeks old. Parents will care for their young for about 8 weeks; however, small toucanets may fly from the nest when 43 days old.

I've seen Emerald Tanager and Emerald Toucanet. I've also seen Coppery-headed Emerald, a Costa Rican Endemic.

The underparts of the araçaris (smaller toucans) are yellow, crossed by one or more black or red bands, and the edges of the beak are saw-toothed. The toucanets have mostly green plumage with blue markings.
