Tree frogs are frogs of the family Hylidae. There is large variation within the tree frogs. Many of the arboreal frogs are green in colour, whereas the terrestrial and aquatic species are duller.

Green Tree Frogs need a variety of insects, including crickets, mealworms, silkworms, butterworms, etc. Dust the gut-loaded insects with a calcium supplement daily. Provide a small area with clean water, changed daily.

Tree frogs can be somewhat long-lived in captivity, but it is difficult to assess their age in the wild. Records show Pine Barrens tree frogs in captivity can live up to 5 years.

Cuban tree frogs are the largest tree frog species in North America. They vary in color from dark green to pale gray, often changing color to match their environment.

These tree frogs have adapted to seasonally dry or wet habitats. They prefer moist forested environments, but have skin that can adjust to drier situations.

White's tree frog lives in the rainforests of Northeast Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia and the Torres Straits, although some suggest that evidence of the frog has been found in South America.

Barking tree frogs like a moderate climate between 70 and 80 degrees F. This type of tree frog eats mainly crickets, small worms and other insects, flies, and moths. As suggested by the name, Barking tree frogs spend most of their time in trees.

Red-eyed Tree Frog
Amphibian. During the day, red-eyed tree frogs mostly sleep, keeping their eyes closed to help camouflage themselves. If disturbed, a frog will abruptly reveal his red eyes, startling potential predators.

Red-eyed tree frogs feed on insects such as crickets, moths, flies, and grasshoppers.

The red-eyed tree frog belongs to a diverse group of frogs known as the New World tree frogs.

Red-eyed tree frogs will lay clutches of eggs on the underside of leaves that are standing above a water source. Mating is often a highly competitive event for the males.

Red eyed tree frogs are not considered threatened in their natural environment. However there has been much concern about the overall condition of the rain forest habitat in which they reside.

The waxy tree frog is active mainly at night, when it hunts for insects. It's also called the monkey frog because of its long legs.

The green tree frog is native to the south-eastern parts of the United States. They are commonly seen in Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, and southern Georgia in the local shrubbery of the neighborhoods.

The toes of tree frogs are not as webbed as those of other frogs, but they are still strong swimmers. They are also strong jumpers.

Australasian tree frogs are found in Australia, New Guinea and the surrounding islands. The number of species is currently believed to be around 150, however, this estimate is continually growing as new species are discovered.

This family is composed of the Old World Tree frogs and can be found in India, Sri Lanka, China, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Japan, the East Indes, and Madagascar. One species can be found in Africa.

These attractive frogs are increasingly popular with hobbyists. Hyla cinerea has a reputation for being easier to keep than other tree frogs, and is often recommended for novice keepers.

The Clown Tree Frog (Dendropsophus sarayacuensis) - there is large variation among tree frog species and the Clown Tree Frog is just one of them.

These tree frogs are light grayish in color with beautiful patterns of brown or black banding. Juveniles show stronger contrast which fades as they age. Their skin also becomes somewhat bumpy with age. They range from 2.5 to 4 inches in length.

DESCRIPTION: Tree frogs have large, sticky toe pads. Color can change gray, green, or brown, according to environment or activity. Underside of hind legs yellow. 1 1/2 to 2 inches long.

The skin on this tree frog is rather rough and pebbly looking with a dark irregular blotch on the back. It is well camouflaged for a summer spent foraging in the trees. This photo shows how well they blend in with their surroundings.

versicolor (Eastern gray tree frog) and H. chrysoscelis (Cope's graytree frog) are closely related in that H. versicolor has a double set of chromosomes (tetraploid) and evolved from H. chrysoscelis (diploid).

Larvae eat snails, Pacific Tree Frogs, and Red-legged Frog tadpoles.
Life Cycle The western red-backed salamander mates from November to December. The female lays a clutch of about 10 eggs from April to May.

Many people think of tree frogs as tropical, but we have two nearly identical species of tree frogs in the Chicago Region. Both are commonly known as Gray Treefrogs, but are given different scientific names: Hyla versicolor and Hyla chrysoscelis.

Their diet includes various insects, small animals such as young mice and birds, tree frogs, and even other lizards. After the May mating season, up to 20 eggs can be laid in June or July.

Three of Minnesota's frogs, the gray tree frog, wood frog, and spring peeper, spend winters frozen (frogsicles), then thaw in spring. They replace water in their organs with a natural antifreeze that protects against icy damage.

Mantella frogs are tiny tree frogs and occur in color combinations of dark black and iridescent blues, oranges, yellows, and greens.

" This is very similar to that of the green tree frog (Hyla cinerea), but it does not carry long distances and is lower in pitch. Because of this calling similarity of these two species, the known range of the Pine Barrens Treefrog may be inaccurate.

Diet: Toucan eat mostly fruit, but also eat bird eggs, insects, and tree frogs. Toucans swallow fruit whole and then regurgitate the seeds; this disperses viable (living) seeds in the forest.

Like many members of the Mimidae (most famously mockingbirds), it also mimics the songs of other birds, as well as those of Hylidae (tree frogs), and even mechanical sounds.

Instead they usually feed on small lizards, baby snakes, amphibians, especially tree frogs, and small mammals, such as rodents. Smaller forest tarantulas and most of the desert species prey mainly on insects.

Within Alberta there are 10 species of amphibians: two salamanders and eight frogs and toads. The frogs and toads can be subdivided into true toads (three species), spadefoots (one species), tree frogs (one species), and true frogs (three species).

Prey taken include insects, spiders, centipedes and millipedes, as well as lizards and tree frogs. Prey is obtained by sallying from a perch to snatch it in flight, and gleaning the prey off leaves and branches while flying.

Color: Gray to creamy white. This frog can change colors, so it can be anything from a mottled grayish green or solid green to a gray or creamy white color. The inner thighs on the hind legs of all gray tree frogs are yellow.

Among listed amphibians are 8 salamanders and newts, and 5 frog and toad species, including the Endangered (both lists) Houston toad, the Threatened (state only) Mexican tree frog, and the Threatened (state only) Mexican burrowing toad.

The whole of these uncouth and guttural notes have no bad resemblance to the croaking of the tree frog, as to sound.
