Treefrogs - Family Hylidae
Treefrogs are considerably smaller than toads or true frogs. All treefrogs have toe pads, though they vary in size among the species. Species with large toe pads can climb high into trees to feed.

Gray Treefrog (Hyla versicolor)
The Gray Treefrog has flexible toes with large, sticky toe pads, making it an excellent climber. These frogs are usually walkers
and climbers rather than jumpers.

Canyon Treefrog (Hyla arenicolor)
Description: To 2¼" snout-vent length. Color gray or brown, with scattered darker spots or splotches. Expanded pads on toes.

The Green Treefrog, Hyla cinerea, is found near wetlands statewide. It is usually vivid green but can change to dull gray green. It has a wide white stripe with dark borders down each side. It is 2.25" long.

Gray Treefrogs - larger size, concealed surfaces of the thigh and groin are yellow to golden orange. There is a divided pustule at the base of the fourth fingers on each hand (undivided in the Gray Treefrogs).

This treefrog is well known for it's climbing ability. It can scale most surfaces, even glass, with the use of its sticky toe disks. Each 'disk' secretes a mucous that creates tension between the disk and the surface.

DESCRIPTION: Tree frogs have large, sticky toe pads. Color can change gray, green, or brown, according to environment or activity. Underside of hind legs yellow. 1 1/2 to 2 inches long.

Gray Treefrogs breed from mid-May to June in our region and can be found in various habitats including savannas, woodlands and floodplain forests. Males tend to be smaller than females and have dark patches under their chins during breeding season.

Gray Treefrogs are small to medium sized frogs reaching lengths of about 2 inches. An individual frog can be gray or green, as shown here, or various shades of brown or even nearly white.

Like most treefrogs, this species is strictly nocturnal (active at night). It is difficult to observe because of its treetop habitat and its mottled appearance, which blends well with pine tree bark.

The Gray Treefrog occurs statewide, with the exception of apparent absence from the former savannah and prairie habitats of southeastern Wisconsin, where it is replaced by the look-alike species Cope's Gray Treefrog, H. chrysoscelis.

They are sometimes collectively referred to as Australasian treefrogs. They are distinguishable from other tree frogs by the presence of horizontal irises, no pigmentation of the eyelid and their Wallacean distribution.

Blue jays will eat fruits, seeds, nuts, insects, birds' eggs, small birds, mice, treefrogs and snails. Breeding range is expanding to northwest; but is generally found east of the Rockies from southern Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.

Evenings in North America: In North America there are many species of tree frog, including Hyla versicolor, a species of grey treefrog, and Hyla cinerea, the green tree frog.

Eastern long-toed salamander larvae in Oregon have been observed feeding on hatchling Pacific treefrog (Hyla regilla) larvae. Cascades frog (Rana cascadae) larvae and fairy shrimp (Anostraca) were other potential prey in the breeding pond [31].

Reproducing tetrataenia require a diet consisting primarily of frogs (juveniles may also feed on salamanders, earthworms and treefrogs). Thus, despite an abundance of mice and fish, where there are no frogs, there are no tetrataenia.

If allowed to overeat and become obese, older Dumpy Treefrogs grow fat layers on the tops of their heads, hence the name "dumpy." White's Tree Frogs have "suction-cups" on their feet and can climb smooth surfaces, such as glass, with ease.

it constricts its prey within the tight coils of its body. Adults often hunt for mice around rural buildings such as barns, sheds, or cottages. The young will feed on small lizards, young mice and, occasionally, on small frogs such as treefrogs.
