The Upland Sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda) is a long-legged, big-eyed, short-billed shorebird which nests in the prairie grasslands of the central United States and much of Canada.

The upland sandpiper eats a wide-variety of invertebrates including grasshoppers, crickets, weevils, beetles, moths, ants, flies, bugs, centipedes, millipedes, spiders, snails and earthworms. It also eats some grains and seeds.

The Upland Sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda) is an odd bird which is the closest relative of the curlews (Thomas, 2004). It is distinguished from them by its yellow legs, long tail, and shorter, less curved bill.
