The Vervet Monkey (Cercopithecus aethiops) is fairly common and widespread over much of southern Africa.

Vervet monkeys living near areas inhabited by people can become pests, stealing food and other items and raiding crops. Good climbers, jumpers and swimmers, they often elude capture.

Distribution: Grassland south of the Sahara from Somalia to eastern and southern Africa.
Habitat: Savannah and woodland edge, near water.
