Weaver birds, also known as weaver finches, get their name because of their elaborately woven nests (the most elaborate of any birds'), though some are notable for their selective parasitic nesting habits.

Weaver birds try to escape the attentions of ambushing snakes.

This is a small weaver bird, with no more then 13 cm. The Red-billed Queleas are sexually dimorphic: the male has different color from bill to toe, which makes sexing quite easy.

There are nearly 100 species of weaver birds renowned for their carefully woven hanging nests. These nests tend to be either hung from the tip of a branch or leaf, or suspended between two twigs.

At Chester Zoo in the north of England a huge tropical house contains palms, ponds and waterfalls, and is home to weaver birds and brightly coloured starlings.

The nest can be compared to an apartment building, housing several generations of Hammerkops and other animals as well. Weaver birds often build their nests under the shelter of the Hammerkop's huge structure.

Barn Owls and eagle owls may force them out and take over the nests, but when the owls leave, the Hammerkops may reuse the nests. Snakes, small mammals such as genets, and various birds live in abandoned nests, and weaver birds, mynas, ...

It has several marked deficiencies compared with Australia, among which are the babblers (Timeliidae), weaver birds (Ploceidae), the Platycercinae among parrots, diurnal birds of p rey and the emeus.
