Plumed Whistling-duck (Dendrocygna eytoni)
This bird is normally found in northern and eastern Australia down to Victoria.
The Plumed Whistling-duck feeds mainly at night and on plant material such as grasses and seeds.

Status Two records. A bird of this species, identified from a wing sent to the Canadian Wildlife Service, was shot on Bon Portage Island on 15 January 1976.

The Fulvous Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna bicolor) is a long-necked, long legged duck, similar in structure to the Black-bellied Whistling-Duck.

Whistling-Ducks, formerly called Tree Ducks, are so named because of their whistling calls. They have long legs and necks, looking like a cross between a goose and a duck. They inhabit fresh and brackish ponds, marshes, and streams.

Fulvous Whistling-Duck: Large, long-legged, long-necked duck with dark brown back and white V-shaped rump patch. Head and underparts are buff with white throat and vent.

Diet The fulvous whistling-duck usually eats at night. It gleans seeds from grasses and weeds and forages for waste grain in cornfields and rice fields. It will sometimes scoop up plant materials in shallow water.

The two most numerous bird species are mixed together here. The big ones are Anseranas semipalmata (Magpie Geese), which gather by the thousands in the dry season, and the little ones are Dendrocygna eytoni (Plumed Whistling-Ducks).
