Zonotrichia leucophrys
The White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys) breeds across much of the northern United States and most of Canada and Alaska. The species winters in the southern half of the U.S. and into Mexico.
White-crowned sparrows mate for life. The female builds the nest, usually in the ground cover or hidden in a clump of vegetation, or less commonly at the base of a tree or among tree roots, or beside a rock or log.
The white-crowned sparrow eats seeds, buds, grass and fruit. It mainly feeds on the ground in areas with some cover. It scratches the ground with its feet to uncover food. It may also eat some insects.

It resembles the White-crowned Sparrow, but that bird lacks the yellow spot before the eye and the conspicuous white throat patch that mark the White-throated Sparrow.
