White Ibis
Eudocimus albus
The White Ibis (Eudocimus albus) is a resident of marshes, swamps, lakes and wetlands in the Americas from Baja to the eastern United States and south into South America.

White ibises spend most of their day foraging in shallow water for crabs, crayfish, insects, snails, frogs, snakes, and small fish. They find their prey by wading slowly and probing the mud and water carefully with their long, curved bill.

White Ibis distribution is prone to rapid change in any given area. The species tends to be nomadic; large breeding colonies respond quickly to changes in habitat or food supply.

The white ibis wades in the water sweepings its heads form side-to-side in search of food. It uses its long, curved bill to probe in the mud for crabs and crayfish. It swallows its prey whole.

The mature White Ibis is easily distinguished from other Ibis, thanks to its stark all-white plumage. Generally a bird found near the coastlines in the Southeastern United States, strays do occasionally wander well north of the normal breeding range.
