Wild goats live in the mountains of southeastern Europe and Asia. In the spring they graze high in the mountains, but in the fall or winter they retreat to lower slopes or valleys to avoid deep snow.

The domestic goat (Capra aegagrus hircus) is a domesticated subspecies of the wild goat of southwest Asia and eastern Europe. Domestic goats are one of the oldest domesticated species.

The markhor is an endangered species of wild goat that is natively found in the mountainous regions of western and central and Asia.
