Przewalski's Wild Horse - Equus caballus przewalskii.
Przewalski's wild horse (Equus caballus przewalskii) is a stout, pony-like horse that stands about 122cm (4ft) at the shoulders and weighs between 200kg-300kg (440lbs-660lbs).

Wild, Wild Horses: Przewalski's Horse (Equus ferus przewalskii), a rare Asian species, is the only true wild horse alive today. Also known as the Mongolian Wild Horse, Mongolians know it as the taki, while the Kirghiz people call it a kirtag.

Wild horses (which include the asses and zebras) are not in such an enviable position however, and some species are in great danger of disappearing in the very near future unless something can be done to save them.

'Wild horse' was the name given to the mountain zebra in the 1700's and early 1800's.

This wild horse was declared extinct in the wild in the 1970s. National Zoo scientists are part of an international effort to preserve the species.

The domestic horse's closest wild relative, the Asian wild horse became extinct in the wild 40 years ago.

Tarpan Wild horse originally from Central Asia, and has not descended from tame horses. Tarpans are found in large herds of five or more, each heard led by a stallion .

Bands of wild horses consist of 3 to 20 horses; a stallion (adult male), and many mares (adult females) and their foals (the young).

The Mongolian wild horse is known in the West as the Prezewalski horse after the Russian naturalist, Nikolai Przewalski, who first sighted several herds in 1879. In Mongolia it is called takhi.

The only truly wild horse today is the Mongolian wild horse, or Prezewalski's horse, which lives in small numbers in Central Asia. All others are feral; that is, they are descendants of once-domesticated horses.

Feral populations are mostly small in number and threatened by human encroachment. The one true wild horse Przewalski's horse is considered extinct in the wild by some, and at best is alive only through captive breeding programs.

They are obtained from the young of the numerous herds of wild horses that roam over the plains of Turkestan. The coat is usually a shade of brown, sometimes greyish, fairly bright and with a suggestion of waviness. Useful for motor coats. Value 3s.
