The Woodchuck is from the order Rodentia. The largest group of mammals is the Rodentia. A rough generalisation is most non-flying mammals are rodents.
Woodchucks are burrowers, and they have strong, claw-tipped paws. They dig extensive tunnel systems that include a main entrance, lookout posts, a latrine chamber and a nesting or sleeping chamber.
Woodchucks are primarily vegetarians. In early spring, upon first emerging, there is little greenery available so then they eat the bark and twigs of various trees and shrubs.
The woodchuck is famous for its habit of hibernating during the cold winter months. It digs a burrow underneath the ground, usually a maze of tunnels leading to a large chamber, where it makes a nest.

Woodchucks are the most solitary marmots although several individuals may share a single den. Woodchucks are usually highly agonistic.

Diet
