Yellow-billed Cuckoos won't visit feeders or use nest boxes. They feed primarily on insects and are especially fond of tent caterpillars.

Yellow-billed Cuckoo Coccyzus americanus. Breeder. Common in spring, summer, and fall in all regions. Found in woodlands and on farmlands with scattered trees and orchards. Low Conservation Concern.

The Yellow-billed Cuckoo occurs during the breeding season in most areas of the United States except the northeastern and north-central states (from Washington to North Dakota).

Description Length: 28-33 cm. Adults: Similar to the Yellow-billed Cuckoo, but bill is all black, and tail feathers are more narrowly margined with white.

Some American (New World) cuckoos are the black-billed (pictured above left) and yellow-billed cuckoos (Coccyzus americanus). These birds migrate to South America during the cold North American winter.

The most widely distributed species in North America are the
