YELLOW RAIL

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Coturnicops novaboracensis (Gmelin)
OTHER NAMES: Yellow Crake, Little Yellow Rail (Terres 1980).

Yellow Rail: Breeds from the Maritime Provinces to Alberta and the southern part of the Northwest Territories, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Oregon.

The Yellow Rail breeds from the Canadian Maritimes to the wetlands of the northern Great Plains, including parts of the upper Midwest. Around Saint John's Bay, Canada, this rail was common as recently as 2004.
