Popular species, including the Banggai Cardinal fish, the Powder Blue Tang, and the Hawaiian Yellow Tang, are all near extinction because too many have been taken out of the ocean.
The most common type of tang kept in salt-water aquariums are the yellow tang and the bright blue regal tang but despite the fact that the tang is popular fish to keep they need to be well looked after and have specific water conditions maintained.
Other species, such as the Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens), which is bright yellow around Hawaii and brown in other parts of the Pacific, are differently coloured in different parts of their ranges.
