The zebra longwing butterfly caterpillars eat the leaves of passion flowers. The passion flower contains a toxin that gives the zebra longwing an unpleasant taste and makes it poisonous to predators.

The zebra is the only grazer to have both upper and lower incisors; it can thus snip the grass blade (rather than yanking it out), exposing the tender under grasses for others.

Most adult zebras stay in family groups throughout their lives. Upon reaching sexual maturity, adolescent mares will leave their original family to form a new one, or are received by other groups.
