Zebra Finches, are small birds (averaging 9cm) and are native to the Australian grasslands. Australia currently has a closed door policy prohibiting the exportation of animals from the country.

Zebra Finch: Native to most parts of grassland Australia (apart from the colder southern regions) this is one of the smallest of the grass finches, but without doubt the most popular.

There were quite a few flowering trees and in one of them I had Black-faced Woodswallow and Zebra Finch.

Zebra Finches, the most popular species for birdsong research, develop a version of a familiar adult's song after 20 or more days from hatch. By around 35 days, the chick will have learned the adult song.

In captivity, the Plum-head or Cherry Finch has hybridized with the Zebra Finch, the Long-tailed Grass Finch, the Bicheno Finch, the Bengalese Finch, and the Indian Silverbill.
