Acrylic is a trademark name of Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA).
Other names are Plexiglas, Perspex, Plazcryl, Acrylite, Acrylplast, Altuglas, R-Cast, Polycast and Lucite. But is commonly called acrylic glass or simply acrylic.

Although acrylic is softer than tool steel, it will dull regular tool steel cutters rather quickly. When buying router bits look for the highest quality carbide tipped cutters you can find.

Acrylic or Glass
Acrylic aquariums are very lightweight with smooth corners that do not chip. Acrylic also offers a less distorted view than glass.

Acrylic - A clear plastic material used to construct aquariums. It is half the weight of glass and its refractive index is closer to that of water than glass, making it more transparent. Acrylic is more easily scratched than glass.

Acrylic (Plexiglas) aquariums require extra special care, as they are easily scratched by common glass-cleaning devices or chemically damaged by glass-cleaning chemicals. Use only products specially labelled as safe for acrylic.

Acrylic aquariums are better insulators than glass aquariums, therefore a smaller heater is required to heat acrylic aquariums.

Acrylic is lighter than glass, therefore acrylic tanks are way easier to transport than glass ones. However, you probably will not be transporting your tank too often so that wouldn't matter.

An acrylic aquarium is going to be lighter, stronger and more durable than a glass aquarium. But an acrylic aquarium will scratch much easier and it can be very difficult to buff out an aquarium scratch on an acrylic tank, if at all.

Buy a skein of acrylic yarn. Choose a yarn that is dark in colour as it would be easier to find the eggs later. Soak the whole skein in boiling water for a while to sterilise it and to remove any residue dye.

Two basic materials are used for aquarium construction, glass and acrylic. Glass is preferable due to reasonable cost, and superior ability to resist scratches and discoloration.

By the same token, Plecos should *not* be kept in wooden tanks, or even acrylic ones for that matter, as they may chew into the tank material damaging it and/or themselves (by ingesting toxins or undigestible matter).

One breeder uses a clear acrylic specimen container. Coming out of this is a "U" return tube. The tube needs to be covered with something so that the eggs are not sucked back into the tank. There are many of different ways to do this part.

Also remove any algae from the glass with a clean scourer - use a scourer made for the material your tank is manufactured from - glass or acrylic and one that has not been used for the dishes! ...
