Activated carbon offers important benefits for saltwater aquariums. It removes a wide variety of organics and chemicals from the water. In fact, activated carbon performs much like a protein skimmer, with the added benefit of water clarification.

Preface ...

Activated carbon can be purchased in many forms. My preferred form is the pelletized one because of its greater internal surface area, its ease of use and void space and its excellent wetting characteristics. G.A.C.

Activated Carbon
The most familiar chemical adsorbent is activated carbon. Activated carbon should be a little larger than pinhead in size. When washed and dry, it should be dull and not shiny. When placed in water, it should hiss.

Activated Carbon
Activated carbon is the most widely known and used media for chemical filtration. Activated Carbon is used to remove organic pollutants, which cannot be handled by biological or mechanical filtration.

Procedure:
Before you begin increase heat to at least 85 degrees, but not higher than 90. Make sure there is plenty of aeration because warm water holds less oxygen and also speeds up fish metabolism.

Activated Carbon - A filtration medium used in the aquarium filter to remove impurities from the water and help maintain clarity. It can also used to absorb fish treatments from the aquarium after the course of treatment is finished.

Activated Carbon: Solid carbon which is used to adsorb impurities from the water, fresh or marine. It is also useful for removing unused ozone from the air.

Activated Carbon: A commonly used chemical filter media, which looks like crumbled charcoal.

Activated Carbon
A form of carbon specially formulated for aquatic filtration. Activated Carbon is good for removing a large number of toxins and other unwanted substances from aquarium water.

Activated Carbon
Available in granules (GAC) or powder. Granules are usually more practical for commercial use. Removes negative ions from the water (such as ozone, chlorine, fluorides etc.) Once used it can be recharged by heating to 900oC.

Activated carbon and carbon-impregnated pouches and pads have a limited lifespan of around two to eight weeks, and if left in the aquarium too long, there's a risk that they could leach chemicals back into the tank via a process called re-adsorption.

Any activated carbon you are using should be replaced monthly.

Granular activated carbon (GAC) is manufactured from carbon, typically coal, heated in the presence of steam at very high heat.

Try using activated carbon in your aquarium filter. Or, if you are running activated carbon, replace it if it's been awhile. Activated Carbon should do the trick, along with regular partial water changes and gravel vacuuming.

activated carbon This is carbon, looking like crumbled charcoal. It can absorb many compounds out of the water, and is especially good at removing yellowing compounds to keep the water clear.

- Do use good quality activated carbon in your tanks - this removes unwanted toxins and keeps the water crystal clear.
- Do regularly replace your activated carbon (approx. every 8 weeks).

Keep activated carbon in a high flow area so that the water passes through it. Once the cycle is over, you can use activated carbon intermittently or continuously if you want to
Operate the lighting starting with a 6-hour period.

Carbon: Activated carbon medium in your aquarium helps to break down dissolved substances in the water.
Carbon dioxide: Known as CO2, is the biproduct from respiration.

Activated carbon and calcareous gravels both lead to copper loss and can either be avoided or used with the understanding that more copper will be needed.

activated carbon, zeolite, etc.) can remove (under limited circumstances) such substances as ammonia, heavy metals, dissolved organics, etc. through chemistry (e.g., ``adsorbtion'' or ``ion-exchange resins'').

But when it comes to activated carbon or other absorptive filtration media, it's best to get it in smaller quantities. Better yet are individually sealed units that aren't opened until they are used.

This problem is most often addressed through two filtration solutions: Activated carbon filters absorb nitrogen compounds and other toxins from the water, ...

If the filter contains activated carbon and filter wool, dispose of this, and replace with new supplies.

They used glass filter wool as the media to cultivate bacteria, which was usually layered with charcoal (We didn't have activated carbon back then.). Most of the larger power filters are now obsolete.

HITH is often called Hexamitiasis (hexamita protozoan) There are a couple theories as to what causes HITH: Absence of a varied diet, presence of activated carbon, high nitrate levels, & poor water quality.

The most commonly used form of chemical filtration consists of activated carbon. Carbon will bind harmful toxins and thereby help keeping the water quality up. You can add activated carbon to your mechanical filter.

This filter uses activated carbon and glass wool (or peat moss) to serve as biological filters. They absorb and retain the fine waste products that float in the water, along with the harmful nitrates and ammonia by-products.

Chemical filtration as the name implies can remove toxins and other chemically induced material from your aquarium system with the use of activated carbon. It's necessary to change activated carbon should be changed often to have a save community.

That's is to say, that the large particles are trapped out by the filter pads, organics are removed by, either a protein skimmer or activated carbon, and the 'chemical version' of animals waste is dealt with by the biological filter.

We recommend the use of activated carbon in your filter. The require warm water. Keep the temperature 85-88 degrees. Maintain a pH of 6.6-7.0. Adult discus should have at least a 55 gallon tank. Do partial water changes (25%) weekly.

The use of activated carbon is also effective at removing this discoloration. An excellent method of keeping driftwood clean is to keep ancistrus or plecostomus (clown plecostomus) species which scrape and ingest it as part of their diet.

After four weeks, the mechanical filter media begins to serve as biological filtration as bacteria cultures colonize the media. Activated carbon serves as a means of mechanical filtration by absorbing small particles including toxins, medications, ...
