Aquarium Activated CarbonAdipose

Acute
A rapidly developing disease or process. Used to describe a disease outbreak where the stock are rapidly affected, often dying without showing many symptoms.

Acute Downward pH Spikes
All of the situations described above involve chronically low pH. None of them involve acute, or transient, pH excursions. In certain situations these can occur, however, and knowing what to do may be of interest.

Acute Form
An infection which has an incubation of a few days, usually happens at 25oC-32oC. Infected fish may have no external symptons and just die in a couple of days after appearing listless.

Tetra´s foods are highly digestible, resulting in minimal waste production, and they have been formulated to actively improve the condition of fish. This ensures they receive the right balance of nutrients to keep them in top condition.

The bug can be cured in acute stage, not in the chronic form. Invades heart muscle, and can cause heart arrythmia's, myositis, in the intestine toxic megacolon and esophageal problems. Hard to diagnose, can require zoological diagnosis...

Because these changes were so slow - many weeks to many months or even years - the existing fish adapted to the changes without acute problems.

Characteristic of this species is an acute incision or notch above the nares.

For aquarium purposes a thorough necropsy of fish is not necessary as most internal worms and protozoans do not usually cause acute problems or death (the host and parasite being well-adapted to each other).

In very acute disease outbreaks, there may be very few obvious external symptoms.
TREATMENT If fish is still feeding, offer a full course of medicated food (you can soak the food in the antibiotic solution before feeding).

Columnaris can be external or internal and may follow a chronic or acute course. Lesions in chronic cases progress slowly, taking many days before culminating in fish death.

Acidosis and alkalosis can be chronic (pH changes slowly over a long period of time) or acute (pH changes quickly). To treat either chronic alkalosis or acidosis, you should gradually correct the pH of the aquarium by no more than 0.2pH units per day.

This fish makes a good scavenger and has an acute sense of smell. If not fed well enough, they will occasionally pick off a neon or other small fish. The pictus catfish are particularly fond of worms, but will gobble up most meaty foods.

Blades are usually acute [pointed tip] with 5-9 longitudinal veins and are light to medium green, sometimes displaying reddish spots; ...

It may be a part of the treatment of choice in certain conditions during an acute infection. It may even be part of the proper regimen for long-term maintenance of certain types of fish.

I believe though, that as we see less cali-sand being used, we will see more instances of MBD (metabolic bone disease) as this problem kills less quickly than impaction, and presents less acutely, sometimes outwardly asymptomatic for years.

Disease can be acute (rapid onset) or chronic (slow onset and lasting for a long time), and caused by hereditary factors, trauma or injury, infectious agents (bacteria, viruses, fungi), ...

Others may survive the initial shock, but the acute stress of this radical change in environment weakens them, making them more susceptible to infection.

For the purposes of this article, we will focus on the most frequent problem of acute ammonia and nitrite poisoning.

Most commonly seen on hands-can lead to acute arthritis of finger joints.
Bacterial infection through break in skin. Carried by many animals, including dolphins, shellfish, and fish.

If the angle between the returned water stream and the aquarium wall is too acute, current will be localized at that end of the tank and food will generally be pushed to the other end where it is filtered out.

water is alkaline due to the increase in calcium carbonate (cacos) released by the gravel, the resultant high pH (hydrogen-ion concentration) together with low temperature usually result, in a high NH3 level which normally cause the popular Acute ...

Their predatory lifestyle is reflected by large eyes and a large nose with big nostrils to maximize the water inflow. They have a very acute sense of smell: in their natural habitat, murky rivers in South-America, ...

So, to avoid acute oxygen deficiency, in addition to the circulation from the filter, you may want to add an airstone. I do not recommend the use of an undergravel filter in a mollie tank.
