Like Fucus, giant kelp has air bladders that keep it suspended in the water column. On the east coast of North America, our species of kelp, Laminaria agardhii, is much different than M.pyrifera.
Fish have a swim bladder, also known as an air bladder. This is an organ connected to the digestive system, which fills up with gas and helps fish to regulate their flotation when moving between two different types of water.
They have an eel like body that is moderately elongated with small round scales, They also have air bladders or lungs, and are able to aestivate during dry periods.
Ceratodontiformes: Pectoral and pelvic fins flipperlike; scales large; air bladder (lung) unpaired; larvae without external gills; adults do not estivate. See Fishbase. Families in this order: ...
They don't have air bladders, so they prefer to cling to the side of the tank or walk around on the bottom and find their food that way. Also, to those of you who have had your dragons die...it might be that you're keeping them with too many fish.
More air helps the fish become more buoyant, while less air allows the fish to swim down to deeper levels. Also called Air bladder. Serves to keep fish properly oriented in the water. Also creates and amplifies sounds.
Some fry did have difficulties swimming horizontally, probably due to a slow development of the air bladder function. The hatching is continuous, daily 2-5 fry (from two females).
