Air Pumps for Aquarium Use - How Can I Make My Air Pump Quieter?
There are no really quiet aquarium air pumps. Aquarium air pumps move air by causing rapid vibrations in a rubber diaphragm.

By EmeraldEmpress Rena Airpumps I have heard a lot of people complain about noisy air pumps, and how they drive them insane. I had this problem too when I first ...

Air Pumps, One of the first devices made for use in the aquarium still continue to play an important part in aquarium keeping. No longer a necessity, Air pumps today can be used as a source of supplemental water circulation and Oxygen supply.

Air pumps come in different shapes and sizes but the most popular ones are tecax air pump from Taiwan together with ‘dyna free, and the dragon' another popular one is super 555 from India though cheaper, but not as rugged.

Air pumps are employed to adequately oxygenate (or in the case of a heavily planted aquarium, provide carbon dioxide to) the water.

Vibrator air pumps use a diaphragm to move back and forth over a valve body that draws air in and then expels it to the air outlet. The diaphragm is vibrating about 3000 (220V) to 3600 (110V) times a minute depending on the Hertz of the power supply.

Just avoid any air pumps in the tank, do not cause water to splash at he surface (another reason to avoid Overhead filters).

Battery-powered air pumps can be very cost effect ways for providing aeration and water current to your tanks. I happen to have the Penn- Plax "Silent Air" Model B11 which uses two D batteries. It can typically be purchased for about $11-15 on-line.

TetraTec Deep Water Air Pumps were designed to pump large quantities of air, even in deep aquariums where oxygen levels are low.

Air pumps can draw contaminated air (read smoker exhalations) into the water. Other pollutants include paint, insecticides etc. Therefore air should be filtered before being pumped into the water. (See FILTERS).

Air stones - Used with Air pumps, they increase the oxygen content of the aquarium water by disrupting the surface to prevent a film covering which prohibits the proper gas exchanges.

Air Pumps
An air pump simply bubbles air through your tank. Air pumps serve two purposes. First, they insure that your tank maintains an adequate concentration of oxygen.

I did not measure the oxygen content but most streams in Kerala are only a few miles from a water fall and water falls are nature's air pumps. Let this be a clue for increased aeration in your tanks if you are trying to breed some rare fish.

Most air pumps can be salvaged with a little work. If you have a name brand air pump then you simply need to test it. If it is not working, you can buy a repair kit for less than 1/2 the price of a new pump.

Air pumps: This is a continous supply of air. See Aeration and Filtration.
Algae: This is a very basic type of plant in a aquarium, and bloody annoying.

If you are using good air pumps this is not always needed, since the air pumps will refresh the air at the water surface.

For life support, a pair of power heads with venturi aerators provide a quiet, low-splash alternative to standard air pumps and airstones.

Many filters introduce some amount of oxygen to your water, but air pumps are important to proper aeration in larger/heavily stocked tanks. High pressure air pumps are available for really large/deep tanks.

These air pumps weighed about the same as modern full canister filter. The crash only occurred between two and four AM.

There are several types of air pumps; some have controls to regulate their intensity.

For long moves, a power inverter is most helpful. You can run air pumps, heaters, whatnot with the inverter.

This would cut on electrical costs compared to the numerous air pumps that were hanging behind the aquariums.

If the answer is no again, make sure all accessories are operating properly (heater, air pumps, filter, etc.). Try to see if another tank mate may have been on the aggressive.

if the filter breaks so check your equipment every day to make sure it’s working. It’s a good idea to have a back up filter that you can move the filter media to if your main filter breaks. Spare heaters and battery-powered air pumps are ...

sucked up by the strong intake currents of canister filters or overflows. They are also good for fish like bubble-eyed goldfish that may be injured by strong intake currents of power or canister filters. Sponge filters can be powerd by air pumps or ...
