water by disrupting the surface to prevent a film covering which prohibits the proper
gas exchanges.

Air stones

Air stones are connected to pumps to produce bubbles in an aquarium. Many think these pumps are too noisy and, therefore, choose not to use air stones.

Air stones come in many shapes and sizes and can be made of plastic, wood, glass and other materials. There are long and slender ones called walls or wands and can be used to "bubble the entire back of the aquarium.

Air stones and oxygen. Cray need well oxygenated water, so a spray bar would be a good addition. lots of air features go down well too, Cray tend to like sitting on an air stone, letting the bubbles flow over them.

Air stones are the small aquatic accessory that can make a big difference in the way your aquarium looks and functions. There are several uses for quality airstones in both fresh and saltwater aquariums.

·Air stones and the air pump to supply them present a "what came first the chicken or the egg?" dilemma. Sure, you'd like to maximize your air volume while minimizing bubble size; but they're mutually exclusive goals.

No air stones, just rigid tubing that goes down the back of the tank and is bent to emerge somewhere near the middle of the tank. The bigger bubbles move more water and generate more diffusion at the surface, and air stones clog up.

To offset the large diameter I decided to use two (wood) air stones. The foam riser was sized to be a 2" ID. This approximately doubles the velocity of the foam. Experimentation showed that a 12" length was appropriate for the riser.

Put rigid air lines in the glasses with no air stones, connected by flexible tubing to the distribution manifold. 80 degrees, bright light at all times. In each glass put 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 or 1/4 teaspoon of cysts, and bubble for 24 hours.

Air tubing and air stones fit into these tubes and connect to an external air pump. At the top of the tubes are filter media inserts, usually carbon or resin, to provide some chemical filtration, though these must be changed frequently.

A diffuser is something that diffuses the gas in the tank, similar to regular air stones... In short, the gas is pushed through a porus medium that releases it in the tank as a fine mist of CO2 bubbles, the finer the better.

Air driven skimmers should use limewood air stones which will need to be replaced from time to time. Cheap limewood air stones have a reputation of needing to be replaced much more often than high quality stones.

Option 1 - Battery driven air stones
Filters need a constant supply of oxygen to keep the bacteria alive.

Step 5: If you opted to add an air pump, run the airline and air stones. Be sure to follow the instructions on the box of the air filter that you purchase.

The pump pushes air through silicon tubing and to air stones or other aquatic decor. They are also an essential for UGF's (undergravel filters). An airstone is placed in each clear tube.

Put the undergravel filter in place with either the air stones or the powerheads in the uplift tubes.
Rinse the substrate material thoroughly before placing it on top of the undergravel filter.

This produces a stronger water flow, but additional air stones are required to keep dissolved oxygen levels up. This second method has the advantage of being quieter and doesn't require the tight fitting lid the the first requires.

A pump that injects air into your aquarium, to drive sponge filters or under gravel filters, protein skimmers, air stones, etc.

Choose aerators that suit your tank size and your taste -- various models of air pumps and air stones are available. Tubing, connectors, and other accessories make installation convenient and organized.

These filters are typically in the low to medium price range depending on whether air stones or power heads are employed. They can be used on various aquarium set-ups, but the amount of livestock that can be maintained will be limited.

Very good selection of aquarium supplies: hoods, light bulbs, food, decorations, filters, air stones, plastic plants, etc. Though their epoxy decorations are really expensive, just like other fish stores.

They are still quite common in providing air streams to aquarium aeration ornaments, air stones and air curtains.

Well, with most upgrades on your tank you install it and that is it, but you should be forewarned that your new skimmer will need the air stones replaced bi-monthly and may require fine tuning once in a while.

Keep oxygen levels high. All Tanganyikan tanks should have high O2 levels, but with Tropheus it's detrimental to their health. You should keep oxygen levels by with lots of surface agitation with strong filtration and power heads or air stones.
