'ANNUAL' KILLIFISH
For most species a small breeding tank of 5.5 gallons (21 L) is fine for a single pair. Use a substrate of fine sand or preferably, peat moss. Another possibility is to furnish the tank with containers having lids.

Killifishes are normally found in Africa, Asia and South America. I said that the family are "Annual fish" meaning that the fish are relatively short-lived. Its typical that they are very attractive and colourful, and they also tend to be aggresive.

-How easy is it to get into the skimmer with your arm for scrubbing the walls? You won't be cleaning the walls except maybe every 6 months to annually.

Replace fluorescent tubes annually, for maximum efficiency. Make note of installation date of fluorescent bulbs. Combine different tubes for certain specialty applications to maximize spectral representation.

One fringe benefit for me in this sort of tank is that the small Tetras that have the reputation for short lives (and which may be annual fish in the wild) will live 6 years or more in a species school without a Noah's Ark of other fish around them.

It should be noted that Nothobranchius guentheri is considered an "annual" fish and has a short lifespan that does not generally reach a year.

This is most common when the annual spring run-off makes the water the worst it can be all year!
