Etymology: Named after Dr. Han Nijssen, a Dutch ichthyologist.

The Apistogramma nijsseni is known in the hobby as the Panda Dwarf Cichlid, and originates within the Amazon Basin of South America. The male of this species has a yellow coloration, which turns into blue as it progresses to the rear of the fish.
It is a dwarf cichlid, closely related to Apistogramma nijsseni. Apistogramma Panduro, are sometimes referred to as Apistogramma pandurini. The name is derived from the Peruvian fish exporters who first collected the fish.
