Dressing up your salt-water system can be a very pleasant experience. A little imagination and motivation can go a long way. Set aside some time just for this purpose.

Aquascape To start with, the real Lake Malawi has rocky shores and a sandy (muddy) bottom while vegetation is not very common.

Don't aquascape with too much care, just put in some nice rocks. Hide your heater behind them. Broken pieces of equipment are not uncommon. Keeping these aggressive fish with others is not recommended, even with other Aba Abas.

A stream aquascape having a dark gravel substrate, rocks, and side plants would provide an ideal environment for a group; the dwarf loach, other small species danio and rasbora could also be included.

Use the gravel to aquascape and create a depth perspective. Slope from back to front and employ some terracing to provide deeper areas. This also benefiting plants which have heavier root networks, such as the larger Echinodorus species.

but they were large and I think will help to make a nice aquascape when I add them to the main tank. These 2 slabs smelled awful, with lots of "something" dying on them.

Tannin - Tannin is an organic dye that is often leached into an aquarium when a piece of driftwood or other material is added to the aquascape. It is often found in native "blackwater" habitats.

It was a 90 gallon tank aquascaped and stocked in the "classic" design of reef tanks of the time.

Designing a planted aquarium: Planning what your aquarium will look like is one of the funnest parts. You may want to fashion your aquarium aquascape setup after a natural occurring aquatic habitat.

It also had plants poorly located and at this point the "look" of this aquascape was going to be impossible to maintain that particular look...another key point when dealing with high light high tech planted tanks...can you sustain the aquascape?

The famous aquascape aquarist , Takashi Amano, actually recommends that anytime you add fish to an aquarium, you should also add some sort of plant life to not only add DO, but also to help with filtration.

One of my favorite uses of this plant is to provide a floating root system in biotope/natural aquascapes that require tops and restrict the use of genera such as Pistia. Killifish and Anabantoids love this stuff as well.

Personally, I can only rarely initiate a fully planted tank in the aquascape I want it to have at maturity.

AQUASCAPE: A. gramineus var. pussilus and A. gramineus var. variegatus is a dwarf form suitable for foreground planting. A. gramineus var. intermedius is a suitable background plant.

Those amazing aquascapes in the magazines and websites are beautiful but are not likely to last against a tank of goldfish. Consider the maintenance of the tank; goldfish tanks need to be robust and easy to maintain.

So, it tends to work better as a midground than background plant in aquascapes. Strong light is necessary for the reddish hue to appear in the leaves.

The Heniochus Brown Butterflyfish may reside in a 75 gallon or larger aquarium that has a rocky aquascape with overhangs or caves for shelter.

With this method you can customize your tanks background with any colors or patterns to accent your particular aquascape. For example...

Create an aquascape in tiers or with steps, and place the species on it according to their need for light. This is easy to do with artificial materials, and the decor can be finished off with dead coral and rocks.

Compatibility in a fish community involves four basic areas: water quality and temperature, food and feeding habits, behavioral tendencies, and the physical layout or aquascape.

It requires a 30 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of loose coral rubble as part of the aquascape, and a tight-fitting lid to prevent it from jumping out of the tank.

The aquarium should be aquascaped with enough rocks to give the females plenty of places to hide from the male. This fish also needs a fair amount of open sandy bottom to patrol. Feed L.

Some aquarists like to keep their fish in a bare tank with prestine water filteration, others prefer to create a natural setting with aquatic plants and aquascape.

Take the time to plan your aquascape, the way you would plan out your home's landscape. Different plants are best used in different places in the tank. Here is a list of aquarium plants and where you will want to use them to create the best effect.

Artificial plants don’t reproduce, but they also don’t grow and change your aquascape over time like live plants will.

It can be easily housed with most all Malawi or Victorian cichlids and some of the Tanganyikan cichlids. Dominant males will almost always be in color with fins displayed. The species adapts to a wide variety of aquascapes.

In my experience they can be rather aggressive (or even extremely) so be sure to have a very complex environment. Apistogramma sp. "Putumayo" seem to spend more time in open water than some other Apistogramma species so if you can aquascape for this ...

They hovered through practically every part of the new aquascape, eyes moving in all directions like a kid in a toy store. Now it was time to see if my holistic assessment was right.

If your new to plants, I would suggest you might not want to start trying to lay out a master aquascape. I use what I call the mish-mash approach. This means if I like a certain plant, I buy it, then figure out what to do with it.
