Aquascaping
While some aquarists maintain aquaria with minimal or no decoration, these are often breeding tanks or tanks for growing out fry.

Aquascaping involves the addition of non-living items to a tank in order to:
- Make a tank less bare.
- Illustrate a habitat.
- Illustrate a type of fishing gear.
- Illustrate an aquaculture technique.

Aquascaping Principles and Technique
For anyone that missed purchasing the AGA 2004 Convention DVD, or missed the convention itself, T. Amano had a couple of interesting lectures that are well worth buying the DVD for.

Aquascaping never ends. The number of fish may have changed, or your fish may have grown bigger but the point is always the same. You may see that the current aquascape doesn't suit their needs anymore.

The difference between a well planted aquarium and a stunning display lies in good aquascaping. This is not just a matter of placing décor in the right combinations and places, it means being creative and using your imagination.

Aquascaping
Aquascaping is landscaping for the aquarium. It is the general term for the functional, artistic, dynamic, creative, usage of structures within the aquarium. Aquascaping usually consists of two main items; rock work and corals.

Dry Aquascaping-After the gravel and decor have been sufficiently rinsed, you can begin to arrange the aquarium inside before you add the water. Put the gravel in first. Usually about a pound per gallon is enough.

Plan ahead. By aquascaping on paper beforehand, you will save time, effort, and money. By checking what your local vendors have (check out their displays, too, for ideas), you can design a habitat you know you can put together right away.

The trick in caring for cichlids is to reduce their aggression as much as possible by making simple adjustments in tank size and aquascaping. Firstly, you need a decent sized tank in order to keep cichlids.

After the break-in and when you're finally happy with the plant assortment and aquascaping, and your plants are growing like crazy, discontinue the CO2 injection.

The first hurdle a novice must face is the set-up itself - the tank, the filter(s), heater, lights, substrate, aquascaping, timers, buckets, test kits, and the water. Making intelligent choices with no background is all but impossible.

This type of aquascaping began in the early 1980's with Takashi Amano who is currently looked upon by many as the foremost expert on planted aquariums.

Nice decorating, or aquascaping, can make the tank much more attractive and appealing in itself, and can also enhance the soothing effects that aquariums are known for. Decorations create the atmosphere your fish live in and you look at.

If you do not want to add these rocks to your aquascaping, you can add a bag of crushed coral to your filter or hide some of these rocks behind the rocks you do want to showcase.

Some aquarium fish and invertebrates also eat live plants. Recently, there has been a movement in the hobby to use aquatic plants as part of aesthetic aquarium design and aquascaping, spearheaded by Japanese aquarist Takashi Amano.
