PD : A bullet-shaped species with strong lateral compression and a long, slender caudal penuncle. The head and snout are rounded and the mouth is small.

More fragile fish include Elephant Noses - Gnathonemus petersi and Baby Whales - Petrocephalus bovei. African fishes from the family Mormyridae, these are night feeders and are hard to provide for in the aquarium.
Watch out for fish with specialized food needs - you should probably avoid these for now - fish like baby whales, knifefish, upside-down cats, butterflyfish, archer fish, etc.

- Mormyrids, which include the popular elephant nose and baby whale have highest brain to body weight ration of fishes. This is probably related to their electrical sense and processing the information contained in their electrical field.
Possible Tank Mates: Elephant Noses, Baby Whales, African Black Knife Fish, and other Synodontis Catfish are good tank mates. This species is also commonly used in African Cichlid tanks.

Suitable fish include, Synodontis Catfish, Elephant Noses, and Baby Whales. They are nocturnal animals, and prefer a dimly lit tank, with dense plant life. An ideal home for the Knifefish is a dark PVC tube.
The two most common representatives of the mormyrid group are elephant fish and baby whales, although several other species from this family are occasionally sold. Mormyrids are inappropriate for your community tank for three reasons.
