Bala Shark
The Bala Shark, also known as the Silver Shark and is great for the semi-aggressive community aquarium. This is one of the more passive freshwater sharks, and they are an active fish that will be visible during the day.

Bala Shark
Not a shark at all but a Cyprinid (related to the Carp), Bala Sharks - Balantiocheilus melanopterus quickly outgrow most home aquaria. They get to be over one foot long.

Bala Sharks are actually a Barb, and as such are a schooling fish. Because of this they will do best in groups, and, if possible, the larger the group, the better.

Bala Sharks are generally healthy fish and require little in the way of special care, though they may be prone to Ich. They will eat almost anything you feed them. They prefer live foods, such as bloodworms, glass worms, plankton and brine shrimp.

Bala Shark
Gets big and likes to be in schools making optimal care conditions difficult in the home aquarium.

How would bala sharks fit in? I once raised an oscar and had a similar problem. In my circumstances, I had to move him(?) from a 30-gal to a 55-gal due to the growing pains 8-).

Hi all, I have a tank with a blood parrot, a bala shark, and two malawi cichlids. The two malawi cichlids were breeding approximately two weeks ago which resulted with the female with a enlarged throat area and is always hiding.

Bala Sharks, Tinfoil Barbs, and other Silver Dollars will all get along just fine. Provide plants and driftwood for cover. Leave the center of the aquarium open. These fish are easily frightened and often run into the first thing they see.

You might really want that massive Arowana or a big shoal of Bala Sharks but unless you’ve got the money, the time and the space to look after the fish you want for the rest of its life then it might be better to reconsider.

Bala/Silver Shark (Balantiocheilus melanopterus): The bala shark is a very popular fish, but they can be a problem, simply because they can become very large. Its a peaceful fish, which can be kept with smaller tankmates.

Bala Sharks need a school.
Shark Species: DONT'S - Sharks Q/A
Redtail sharks, like rainbow sharks, can be intolerant of others of their own species.
Don't try to keep large sharks with small fish, they will become missing.

I had seven tiger barbs, a bala shark, and two angelfish and they all died...these seven are still going strong, I know they killed them because I saw them happen...

SC: Gouramis, Barbs, Danios, Bala Shark, Loaches, Corydoras, Loricarids, tetras.

Now, if you are wanting to be adventures with the fish by size a few big ones are, Arowanas, Bala Sharks, and Knifes. These are just a few of each size of the fishes.

Some of the fish to be cautious of, if you have a peaceful freshwater community tank, are: Scats, Pacus, all large Cichlids, Gars, Arowanas, Tinfoil Barbs, Bala Sharks, African Cichlids, and even Silver Dollars.
