I recently obtained three Indian "Yellow-Banded Shrimp" ("Macrobrachium duarii"); they are presently housed in a partially-filled 37.

The Hi-fin Banded shark will accept a wide range of PH qualities, but is sensitive to nitrate. A powerful filtration system is needed to keep this fish healthy, and the water should be fast-flowing.

Coral Banded Shrimp - Again a very popular scavenger and a very beautiful shrimp in general. They are considered reef safe, but some have reported that they kill fish.

The Clown killi or Banded panchax is a type of killifish, and is not related to a clownfish. It is a rather rare fish and is marked with brown and yellow with vivid blue and red.

Also called the "High-Fin Banded Shark", this fish is found in stores when it is in its attractive and unusual juvenile stage at around 10.2-15.2cm (4-6"). It has a very tall sail-like dorsal fin with black bands and speckling on a white body.

In both cases the females exhibit brilliant red bellies that are banded by iridescent silver which runs into the dorsal fin. The females of each form also have yellow faces and cheeks.

Usually a banded pattern can be observed if both animals are ready, and shortly afterwards a small bubblenest will be build by the male(sometimes no bubblenest) usually in a corner of the tank, under which the animals will mate.

Some of the more popular shrimps are Cleaner shrimp Lysmata amboinensis, Blood shrimp Lysmata debelius, Candycane or Peppermint shrimp Periclimenes brevcarpalis, and Coral Banded shrimp Stenopus hispidus.

Similar, though slightly smaller species include the Banded or Giant Gourami - Colisa fasciata (which is only a giant compared to the similarly colored Dwarf Gourami described below), ...

The most popular are the boxer or Coral Banded Shrimp (Stenopus hispidus) and the cleaner,
skunk or doctor shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis).
The boxer shrimp can be a bit aggressive sometimes towards the cleaners.

They are most commonly confused with the other genera in the sub-family, namely Brochis, Scleromystax and Aspidoras. A long-snouted species. The caudal fin rays are banded in brown and white, forming six or seven transverse rows.

The incubation period is about 36 hours (1 1/2 days). You should feed the fry nauplii of brine shrimp or Cyclops, the young fish grow rapidly, in 14 days they reach a length of 0.39" (1CM) and are conspicuously banded.
