The Half Banded Loach or Bicolor Loach is a fairly hardy little fish that comes from cool fast-moving streams. They will do best in a "river" type aquarium kept with good water movement and subdued lighting.

PD: An elongated, flat-bellied fish with an arched back. The head is long and pointed, and the caudal fin is forked.

While the pattern can vary from fish to fish [more on this below], in this species is is generally more of a twin-bar in appearance, which gave rise to two of the common names, Ladder Loach and Twin-banded Loach.
