BBS is short for baby brine shrimp, which are newly hatched brine shrimp (within 24 hours of hatching).
BBS - Baby Brine Shrimp. Larvae of brine shrimp, crustaceans of the genus Artemia. Cultivated as food for fry and small fishes.
I feed BBS for the first 4-6 weeks, then introduce frozen BBS and even Hikari First Bites. Eventually they are moved onto a high quality crushed flake. Warning, these critters can pack away the food so keep a good stock on hand.
To hatch BBS (baby brine shrimp), add 1 teaspoon of BBS eggs to a mason jar of water. Let this sit for one hour and then add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt.

So if you only use BBS to start the fry with you'll probably end up with a lot more males than females. To get around this I usually add some "green water" to the Nothobranchius fry tanks.
Nothobranchius are sensitive to large water changes.
To start with I feed them BBS (Baby Brine Shrimp). Their bellies will swell and go red when they have eaten. Clean up any uneaten food, as they can die fairly easy during this stage.

The male will take care of the eggs and the fry when they hatch. Newborn fry will hang down from the bubblenest and will live on the egg sack. After they are free-swimming, they can be fed baby brine shrimp or infusoria if they are too small for BBS.
