My betta, Gamma, is a beautiful red and purple fish. He was originally kept in a relatively small betta tank. (This drove me nuts.) I moved him into a 15 gallon tank, where he did well, and never touched any of the baby mollies in the tank.
Most Bettas can withstand a moderate range of temperature and pH changes, but do require fairly good water quality for breeding. Speaking of breeding, reproduction of this species is interesting, to say the least.
Yellow Bettas usually carry the desirable red-loss gene that causes Bettas to not have redwash. They will often also carry and throw fry that are iridescent Blue and Green. Yellow varies from very pale yellow to rich buttery yellow.
Bettas need the following:
At least a one-half gallon bowl or tank. Depending on the size of your "vase" and your Betta, it must have adequate water in it.

Glass bowls are only suitable for Bettas. Goldfish shouldn't be placed in small glass bowls, because they need more oxygen and are messier than most fish. A glass bowl is usually smaller at the top and reduces the exposure to oxygen.
