The black ghost knifefish, Apteronotus albifrons, is a tropical fish belonging to the ghost knifefish family (Apteronotidae). They originate in South America in the Amazon Basin in Peru and from Venezuela through Paraguay in the Paraná Rivers.
Black Ghost Knifefish must be fed a varied diet. This may include live foods, beefheart, shrimp pellets, snails, small fish and worms. Tubifex and Bloodworms are said to be a favorite. These fish are big eaters.

The Black Ghost Knifefish possesses a weak electrical organ at the caudal peduncles which is used to locate food. It is considered a true bony fish. Grows slowly and lives for more than 15 years.
