Black Skirt Tetra
The Black Skirt Tetra is a very peaceful, schooling fish that comes from the regions of South America. Receiving its name from its black translucent coloring, the hardy Black Skirt Tetra is great for any community aquarium.

Black Skirt Tetras are lovely little fish that make charming additions to many freshwater tanks. They get along well in community settings and are quite beautiful.

I have 3 black skirt tetras in my 10 gal. tank. The tank sits next to my 6yr olds bed. I think the fish are real cute. They all go their separate ways during the day, but come my son's bed time, they all migrate to his side of the tank.

These include the distinctive Black or Black Skirt Tetra, the brightly colored Glow Light Tetra, the radiant orange Jewel Tetra, the Flame Tetra, and the red-tailed Pristella Tetra.

The lutino and albino morphs of the "Black Skirt Tetra" (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) are injected with dyes and fed dye laced foods as fry to produce Blue skirt tetras, red skirt tetras, purple skirt tetras, blueberry tetras, grape tetras, ...

Despite being larger than many fish (guppies, small tetras), I have not had any problems with black skirt tetras becoming aggressive around them. They are very hardy fish. I purchased 3 "hi-fin" black skirt tetras 2.

White Skirt Tetras are albino Black Skirt Tetras, and for this reason their care and behavior is virtually the same as the Black Skirt. Although they are not aggressive, White Skirt Tetras will usually not allow themselves to be bullied by other fish.

Fruit Tetras - Created by dipping the White Skirt Tetra, an albino morph of the popular Black Skirt Tetra. They are usually painted pastel colors and given fruit names such as, strawberry tetra, blueberry tetra, grape tetra, or simply mixed fruit.

These small fish are native to Brazil and have long distinctive anal fins, which give them the alternative common name 'black skirt tetra'. There is an albino colour morph available, which is known as the gold or white skirt tetra.

One of these is the White Skirt Tetra (an albino version of the Black Skirt Tetra - Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) which are sold as Blueberry Tetras, Strawberry Tetras, Rainbow Tetras, etc. depending on the dyes used to color the individuals.

There are numerous species that are referred to as tetras, including the very popular neon and cardinal tetras. Other popular types include rasbora tetras, black skirt tetras and head-and-tail light tetras.

This fish is very hardy and can stand a variety of water qualities. Disease is not a big problem with the black tetra. The black tetra is also known as the black skirt tetra. The female black tetra is more robust and larger than the male.

Thin, torpedo shaped tetra fish like neon tetras are not suitable for staring out your aquarium. Here are some of the hardier tetras: Serpae tetra, bleeding heart tetra, red eye tetra, white skirt tetra, black skirt tetra, lemon tetra.
