Review of a visit made in early August, 2006 and originally written for Ryedale Reporter magazine.

Blue Ahli are very territorial, aggressive fish. They need large swimming spaces, so a 90 gallon tank is recommended.

Blue Devil Species Profile
The blue devil is often confused with the yellowtail damsel because they both look so similar to each other.

Blue gularis are for the most part easy to please. They accept a wide range of water conditions and, if the water quality feed and other enviromental factors are good, should thrive. They seldom take prepared foods, and if so without enthusiasm.

Blue Danios are egg-scatterers that spawn among a coarse gravel bed. They will typically spawn at the first light of day. The eggs will hatch in approximately 36 hours.

The Blue Hippo Tang, or Regal Tang is one of the most popular and recognizable saltwater fish. Known by many different common names in different regions, the Hippo Tang is bright blue with a black hook-shaped marking on its sides.

Color: Blue-green, may also be brown or black.
Appearance
Very slimy, when disturbed comes off in sheets. Grows quickly and covers all surfaces in the aquarium, often giving off an unpleasant swampy or fishy odor.

The Red-finned Blue-eye (Scaturiginichthys vermeilipinnis) lives in spring fed pools in Queensland and the species has only been encountered in a handful of pools. None of the pools are very large and the average water depth is just a few centimetres.

Blue Discus is actually the common name for one of the subspecies of S. aequifasciatus, S. aequifasciatus heraldi. There are two other subspecies, S. aequifasciatus axelrodi, the Brown Discus, and S. aequifasciatus aequifasciatus, the Green Discus.

Blue-Green Algae or Cynobacteria
Contrary to what the name implies, blue-green algae is actually a bacteria called Cyanobacteria. It is very easy to get and tough to eliminate.

Steel blue: The fins and body have a light grey-dark gun-metal blue colour ending at the gills and head, which are the same as the royal blue. This colour is also very prone to red wash.

Blue Acaras can easily be described as beautiful. This fish usually has a light purple or blue base color with dark yet subtle stripes running vertically along it's body.

Blue Tangs (saltwater) when stressed or scared, lie on the bottom of the aquarium on their sides until they sense that all danger has passed. If your Blue Tang is lying on the bottom of the tank, and its gills are still moving, it isn't dead.

BLUE-GREEN algae. This is usually the first to arrive, as at seems to enjoy taking advantage of the typical chaos of a not so stable, newly set-up aquarium. It has blue-green color, slimy texture and onion like odor.

actinic lights Actinics are a type of fluorescent light that is very blue. This is the color of light that is most useful to the chlorophyll in marine life, and is the color of the sea below 10 meters.

Have a large piece of plastic or an inexpensive tarp available (I use the blue ones from Home Depot).
When the rock arrives, place it on the tarp, each piece in its own spot, do not stack them but leave space between the rocks.
