Blue Discus is actually the common name for one of the subspecies of S. aequifasciatus, S. aequifasciatus heraldi. There are two other subspecies, S. aequifasciatus axelrodi, the Brown Discus, and S. aequifasciatus aequifasciatus, the Green Discus.

PD: The disc-shaped body has nine dark vertical bands which fade with age. The body color is yellowish-brown to light turquoise.

Neon Blue Discus
The Neon Blue Discus, also known as the Cobalt Blue Discus, is a brilliant sky blue. The overall coloration of Discus will vary depending on mood and overall health of the fish.

Blue Discus are round in shape and are very thin laterally. They can grow to diameters of six inches (15 centimeters) and are quite graceful in appearance.

I was told they were a cross between a German red and a blue discus, and with six fry, I should at least get one pair. I took my latest challenge home and set them up in a 29 gallon tank. I had the ph between 6.8-7.

The metallic blue on the male rivaled that of the metallic solid blue discus. The wild one's I'v had in more recent years were a duller blue, but still nice.

aequifasciatus (the Green Discus) and S. haraldi (the Blue Discus). In both Ready and Bleher the "brown" or "common" discus is the same as the Blue Discus. And both studies used mitochondrial DNA sequence data.

Discus belong to the genus Symphysodon, which currently includes three species: : The red discus or common discus (Symphysodon discus), the blue discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus), and a new species which has been named Symphysodon tarzoo [1].
