This is characterized by water with less salt than the sea, pH values of between 7.7 and 8, and fairly high temperatures, 26-27°C. The decor consists of branches and roots, but never rocks.
Brackish water, with a low salinity, is best but they will adapt to freshwater conditions. Caves, either rocky or manmade must be used for hiding. This fish spends a lot of time just sitting around, waiting for something to happen.

Brackish Water - The middle ground between freshwater and saltwater. This occurs in mouths of rivers near the sea where saltwater fish are moved by currents to brackish water and vice versa. Brackish water is a mixture of saltwater and fresh water.
A brackish water fish, the "orange chromide" grows to a length of 4 inches. They spawn in shelters of seagrass so make sure you have plenty in your tank. These fish are hard to sex so its better to have 3 or 4 pairs to assure breeding.

You would have 10 gallons of brackish water. What happens is that the fresh and saltly water mixes. Alright, suppose you had bag of fresh-water that was semi-porus, and you put it into an aquarium full of saltwater.
In spite of this, the figure-eight puffer actually does best in mildly brackish water when kept in captivity. Figure-eight puffers are normally brownish on the dorsal side, and have irregular dark blotches that are edged in yellowish green.

You will need to decide which types of freshwater fishes appeal to you the most - species that thrive in warm, cold, or brackish water.
Freshwater fish exist naturally in fresh water and saltwater fish exist naturally in the ocean. You can come across fish that naturally live in brackish waters.
They can survive in brackish water. Jubas should be kept in groups of at least 5 to reduce aggression. The substrate should be fine sand and there should be rock caves for hiding. They will not bother java fern.
- Add one teaspoonful of salt for each five gallons of water if brackish water species are to be introduced.
- Plug on the lights and leave on for 72 hours to provide light for the new plants.
