Sometimes known as the lyretail cichlid or fairy cichlid, Neolamprologus brichardi is a species of cichlid, endemic to the clear, hard waters of Lake Tanganyika in east central Africa.
The Brichardi requires water values that simulate that of Lake Tanganyika. An alkaline pH between 7.5-8.5 should be used in order for the fish to thrive. The water should be hard and have a temperature between 75-79 degrees F.

Chalinochromis brichardi are suitable fish for a Tanganyikan community display. This species is often found with Juliodochromis, Telmatochromis, Lamprologus, Petrochromis and Tropheus species.

The Brichardi is a subtle but beautiful color. Normally it will be a slate gray (blue-gray) base color. Their tales will often have extended portions both on top and bottom, making the tips of their caudal fins into a sort of streamer.

The Chalinochromis brichardi owes its name from Belgian, Pierre Brichard. Brichard was responsible for exports from the lake as early as 1971, and the publishing of the first good book on Tanganyikan cichlids.

Brichardi. I found this particular fish rather easy to keep, breed and sucessfully raise the young. Almost all of the 30 fish I hatched are alive and well today. The young are very small at first and grow rather slowly compared to other fish.

They cannot hold their own and will often be picked on by larger more robust Lamprologines in a Tanganyikan Community set up. Large robust fish like N. brichardi, N. leleupi, and larger Altolamprologus species will bully these little guys.
